MPLS – VPLS

Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a virtual private networking solution which makes use of packet labeling to allow efficient packet switching and prioritisation. Every device on the MPLS network, and within the ISPs MPLS cloud, reads the MPLS headers allowing complete control of traffic shaping and prioritisation. Due to the intelligent routing of MPLS packets, data will take the shortest route between sites, rather than via a central hub, ensuring real-time applications do not suffer at peak times on your MPLS network, or when passing through bottlenecks on busy links.

Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) is a class of VPN that supports the connection of multiple sites over a managed IP/MPLS network. The beauty about VPLS is that it presents an Ethernet interface simplifying the LAN/WAN boundary while enabling rapid and flexible service provisioning, because the service bandwidth is not tied to the physical interface. All services in a VPLS appear to be on the same LAN, regardless of location.

MPLS and VPLS from Fluidata provides the ultimate in networking solutions for companies who demand any-to-any connectivity with traffic control at individual packet level.

How do MPLS and PWAN differ?

They don’t they complement each other. MPLS offers unparalleled levels of end to end Quality of Service, perfect for head office and key site deployments where more than one service is required such as data and voice.

Why IS MPLS so expensive?

It used to be the case but not anymore. Apart from the tail connecting to your office (which is dropping in price all the time) there is no further cost for having MPLS or VPLS.

Do I need VPLS?

Most customers’ initial requirements will not require true any-to-any connectivity however as requirements change VPLS can be deployed across the network with no further cost or changes in hardware.
